AI Software Engineering & Agent Systems Research Engineer
Huawei’s Pisa Research Institute is a core innovation hub in the field of automotive software and embedded systems. We are looking for a researcher passionate about the convergence of artificial intelligence and software engineering. This position focuses on the development of intelligent agent systems that can assist, automate, and enhance software development activities throughout the entire engineering lifecycle. The role offers the opportunity to explore how foundation models and agent technologies can transform the way software for intelligent vehicles is designed, implemented, tested, and maintained.
Key Responsibilities:
Investigate agent-based approaches for software engineering tasks such as requirements analysis, architecture design, code generation, automated testing, debugging, and software maintenance.
Develop and evaluate agent workflows that combine large language models, external tools, and structured knowledge sources to improve engineering productivity and software quality.
Research activities will include long-horizon planning, memory mechanisms, tool orchestration, and collaborative multi-agent systems.
Involves building evaluation methodologies for AI-assisted software development and contributing to publications, prototypes, and technology demonstrators.
Required Qualifications:
Hold a master or PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a related discipline.
A strong foundation in software engineering principles and machine learning is required, together with hands-on programming experience in languages such as Python, C++, or Java.
Familiarity with large language models, agent frameworks, retrieval-augmented generation, or program analysis techniques will be highly beneficial.
Previous research publications in AI for Software Engineering, program synthesis, or intelligent systems are considered a strong asset.

We offer a gross annual salary typically ranging from €50,000 to €60,000 determined according to objective criteria such as professional experience, competencies, and seniority. Employees may also be considered for a discretionary annual bonus ranging from 0 to 2 monthly salaries, subject to company evaluation. The applicable collective bargaining agreement is the CCNL Telecommunications, within level 6°.
