Huawei Milan Research Center
At our Research Center we work on cutting-edge technologies in microwave and millimeter-wave communications, focusing on frequency bands such as E-Band, W-Band, and D-Band.
Our research extends to free-space optical communications, advanced system architectures, antenna technologies, and contributions to standardization efforts. We also develop active phased array systems, focusing on innovative architectures and antenna array technologies.
Additionally, we are engaged in research on optical RFICs, including drivers and transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs), as well as microwave and millimeter-wave IC used in power amplifiers and front-end technologies.
Our research also covers HF technologies, advanced electromagnetics (EM), and also power integrity and high-speed signal integrity in next-generation systems.

Research Intern in a nutshell
We are launching a new R&D project focused on optical communication, photonic integrated circuits, and microwave-over-fiber systems. The intern will participate in real industrial research activities involving design, simulation, and laboratory testing of high-frequency optical communication links. If you are enthusiastic in facing new challenges and in top-notch technologies, have a further look!
What will be your main activities?
• Assist in the design and simulation of photonic and microwave-photonic components and systems.
• Support the setup and operation of optical test benches for experiments and measurements.
• Help analyze system-level optical communication links and test results.
• Document experimental data and contribute to technical reports and project development.
• Collaborate with researchers and engineers to support ongoing R&D activities.
What are the skills and qualifications required for the position?
• Master’s degree or above;
• Good knowledge of Photonic component design and simulation, Optical communication systems, Optoelectronics;
• Familiarity with numerical and simulation tools such as: COMSOL, Lumerical, Luceda;
• Ability to understand and analyze system-level optical communication links;
• Basic understanding of laboratory environments and optical test bench setup;
• Basics of microwave-photonic link design and simulation for high radio-frequency communication systems;
• Background in academic or technical competitions is highly preferred, such as: ICPC (International Collegiate Programming Contest), International Science Olympiads (IOI, IMO, IPhO, IChO, IOAI), IMC / MCM-ICM (International / Mathematical Contest in Modeling), CTF (Cybersecurity Capture The Flag), Kaggle, RoboCup etc.;
• Strong motivation for working in R&D environment;
• Good communication skills in English;
• Open and enthusiastic personality, eager to work in a multicultural environment;
• Flexibility and willingness to continuous self-challenge and continuous learning.
